Hybrid Trucks | Alternative Fuels | Incentives / Funding | Information

We want to help your business:

  • Reduce petroleum use through the use of more efficient vehicles and technologies, including hybrids, alternative fuels and higher efficiency modern diesel engines.
  • Alternative fuels: electricity, natural gas, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, or propane
  • Resulting in higher profits by decreasing petroleum dependency

Sustainability and Alternative Fuels
Go that extra green mile with ethanol, biodiesel, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas or electricity. With energy independence ranking as a top priority, we manufacture a wide range of Ford vehicles capable of running on fuels from American sources.

Electrification Choices

Ford’s electrification strategy involves three types of electrified vehicles – hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all electric – to provide customers with fuel economy options and help reduce CO2 emissions.

E85 Ethanol Flexible-Fuel Vehicles and B20 Biofuel Vehicles
Every Ford flexible-fuel vehicle (FFV) is engineered to run on E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), unleaded gasoline or any blend of the two. Several Ford trucks can operate on any blend of up to 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel (a mix known as B20) Both biodiesel and ethanol are cleaner burning and more renewable than conventional fuels.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Vehicles

Another option to cut fuel costs and reduce emissions further is with our compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG – consisting primarily of propane) engine prep package,* available as an upfit option.

*Restrictions apply. This package is available on many Ford vehicles. See developers and installers for details.

As of July 23, 2019, all funds available for HVIP for Fiscal Year 18-19 have been requested, and a waitlist is in effect. Vouchers can still be requested, however they will not be reviewed or approved until more funds are available. Additional funds are anticipated to be available in January 2020. Updates will be posted here when available.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB), in partnership with CALSTART, launched the Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP)and Low NOx Engine Incentives in 2009, to accelerate the purchase of cleaner, more-efficient trucks and buses in California.

Program Updates:

  1. Effective August 15, 2019, EVSE voucher enhancements must be requested within 60 days of the submittal of corresponding vehicle voucher requests.
Have you requested a vehicle voucher more than 60 days ago and still intend to request an EVSE enhancement, but haven’t yet? The deadline to do so is August 31, 2019. Please note that EVSE enhancement requests cannot be submitted if the corresponding vehicle voucher requests are on the HVIP waitlist.
  2. ePTO Guidance Update: Effective 6/10/2019, changes are in effect of ePTO guidance and eligibility in HVIP. Click here for more details.
  3. Low NOx Incentives: Effective 6/6/2019, Low NOx vouchers for new vehicles are $45,000. Repowers for the L9N eligible engine qualify for a $50,000 voucher and repowers with the ISX12N eligible engine qualify for a $52,000 voucher.
  4. EVSE: Effective 6/10/2019, EVSE vouchers are required to complete an EVSE Voucher Request Form and an EVSE Redemption Form. The EVSE Voucher Request Form must be approved BEFORE qualifying EVSE is ordered.
  5. Large Orders: CARB is implementing a review of large voucher requests to ensure incentives do not exceed incremental cost maximums as specified in the FY18-19 Funding Plan, and to help maximize funding availability within the constraints of annual budgets. Effective June 18, large voucher requests, defined as 100 or more vouchers for the same fleet in a 12-month period, are subject to CARB review and approval before voucher-request approval. CARB may reduce voucher amounts on a case-by-case basis to ensure that incentive amounts are consistent with incremental cost policy defined in the Funding Plan. Fleets and dealerships are encouraged to coordinate with CARB regarding large orders prior to submitting a voucher request.

The greatest barrier to purchasing cleaner trucks and buses is the higher price tag.

HVIP provides point-of-sale discounts to vehicle purchasers. There’s no waiting for a rebate check or a tax credit. HVIP works directly with truck and bus dealers to apply the voucher incentive at the time of purchase.

Why do we need cleaner trucks and buses?

Today, trucks and buses are responsible for 37 percent of California’s greenhouse gas and criteria emissions. By deploying new electric, hybrid, and natural gas trucks and buses, fleets can help reduce these emissions.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

Compressed Natural Gas Trucks

All of the engine families we convert have been put through the rigorous approval processes of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and/or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure quality, safety and emissions standards. This is a crucial difference in our systems and converted vehicles over other “kits” which do not meet state and federal legal requirements.

We constantly added to our product portfolio based on demand and pursue the required CARB and EPA approvals.

All of our vehicles are backed with our comprehensive service and warranty support.

Q: Can I convert my existing gasoline powered vehicle to propane or CNG fuel?

A: Unfortunately, No. In California existing vehicles cannot be converted. Only new vehicles can be converted, prior to delivery to the end user.

Q: How much does CNG cost and where can I buy it?

A: visit www.cngprices.com for accurate pricing and locations

Q: What type of fuel mileage does a CNG vehicle get?

A: CNG vehicles achieve the equivalent mileage of a gasoline engine. For example, if a 2012 transit-connect  gets EPA-estimated 21 city/27hwy/23combined MPG, you can expect the same fuel mileage from CNG.

Q: Can I convert my diesel engine to propane or CNG? Do you offer propane or CNG injection?

A: We do not offer these types of systems, they are not CARB approved, therefore not legal for sale in California

Q: Are there incentives to purchase alternative fuel and/or hybrid vehicles?

A: Yes. California Energy Commission and AQMD’s have offered incentives for alternative fuel vehicles. These are typically offered on a first-come first-served basis, until funding is exhausted. Currently there is an opportunity with SCAQMD, the deadline is Sept 28,2012 to submit applications.
Hybrid funding is available through the California HVIP program. Visit www.californiahvip.org for more information on this program.

Q: What type of range can I expect with a CNG vehicle:

A: It depends. With commercial vehicles we can add fuel tanks for extended range. This will depend on the body configuration of the vehicle, but typically we us a minimum 24GGE tank on medium-duty vehicles. For practicality, use 22 gallons X expected fuel mileage to calculate your range.

Q: How is CNG measured?

A: Typically, natural gas is measured in cubic feet. However, however for motor vehicles it is measured in “GGE”. GGE means Gasoline Gallon Equivalent. 24GGE = 24 gallons gasoline equivalent
